Entropy Minimization Based Synchronization Algorithm for Underwater Acoustic Receivers
This paper presents a new entropy minimization criterion and corresponding algorithms that are used for both symbol timing and carrier frequency recovery for underwater acoustic receivers. It relies on the entropy estimation of the eye diagram and the constellation diagram of the received signal. During the parameter search, when perfect synchronization is achieved, the entropy will reach a global minimum, indicating the least intersymbol interference or a restored constellation diagram. Unlike other synchronization methods, this unified criterion can be used to build an all-in-one synchronizer with high accuracy. The feasibility of this method is proven using a theoretical analysis and supported by sea trial measurement data.

Determining the Speed of Light
When measuring a speed, the most common way to calculate it is by recording how far something went and the time it took to go that far. In the case of light, this is very difficult. One could conceivably shine a light over a vast distance and have someone else record when they see the light, but this would be difficult even at large distances. The person recording when they see it will need to have terrific reflexes to accurately measure a correct time as the time will be very short. A better method involves the use of a quickly rotating mirror and a beam of light. By aiming a beam of light o the rotating mirror, then reflecting it o a second stationary mirror back into the rotating mirror, calculations can be made on the speed of light. After first hitting the rotating mirror, the mirror will rotate very slightly in the time it takes the beam of light to return and will reflect back to a different position from where it came from. By measuring the displacement of the round trip, a measurement of the speed of light can be made.

Aún no es posible predecir con seguridad, durante la atención en cuidados intensivos, cuál es la probabilidad de disfunción neurológica en pacientes con alteraciones en el estado de conciencia secundaria a trauma craneoencefálico o daño cerebral anóxico y de esta manera establecer planes de atención ajustados a la condición nal de cada paciente. La posibilidad de disponer de una herramienta de tractografía por resonancia magnética que tempranamente permita de nir la probable condición neurológica nal, facilitaría la toma de decisiones, con una asignación de recursos más equitativa y ajustada dentro de los principios de bene cencia y no male cencia. En los estudios de tractografía es importante evaluar la calidad de los métodos de localización de las estructuras cerebrales. Por esta razón se propone realizar una segmentación automática de las imágenes de difusión y evaluar la calidad de las segmentaciones comparándolas con segmentaciones manuales. Para esto se realizará en una primera etapa un estudio de la consistencia de las seg- mentaciones comparando la segmentación manual y automática, y posteriormente se realizará el estudio clínico.

This report describes a brief overview about the incident ocurred on the Soviet Union (URSS) In 1983. On this date their early warning radar indicated that a US missile was headed towards the URSS, but the alert was a system failure. No catastrophe did not happen because the radar operator was able to analyze the situation and realize that it was a system error. The human experience is even more important that the algorithms.
